Brendan Fraser, the beloved actor whose resurgence has been to the delight of fans, has admitted that he is "astonished" by which role he gets recognized for the most.
Fraser stars in Rental Family, a heartwarming new movie that hits movie theaters on January 16 in the UK.
The movie follows Phillip Vanderploeg (Fraser) as he navigates life in Japan as a struggling actor seeking connection.
His life is changed when he meets Shinji Tada (Takehiro Hira), who brings him into his business to play various roles in strangers' lives.
Fraser Reveals Movie Role He Gets Recognised For
Fraser, alongside Takehiro Hira, recently sat down with VT, where he discussed all things Rental Family.
During the conversation, attention turned to Fraser's career and how portraying an actor related to his own life.
During Rental Family, Fraser's character plays a variety of meaningful roles in other people's lives, so naturally, the question of which of Fraser's real-life roles means the most to him popped up.
Fraser's message was quite simple, but one we could all learn from: "Be kind to one another."
With this message, he expressed how his role in The Whale, for which he won an Academy Award for Best Actor, is the one that means the most to him - and the one for which he gets recognised the most.
Fraser added that he "sometimes" gets recognized by people for his work on The Whale, and it "astonishes" him how it is often by young people.
Fraser Opens Up About Family
Elsewhere in the interview with VT, Fraser opened up about how his work impacts his personal life, given that Rental Family is centered around family and human connection.
Fraser questioned: "What does family mean?"
He continued: "Is it those we are related to by blood? Of course. But also the ones you find along the way, or adopt, or who find you."
On this, both Fraser and Hira noted that working on a movie creates a family, or "tribe," as Fraser put it, on set.
"You become a clan, even," he added. "The 'hey, I'll see you down the road' message is one that is bittersweet. Leaving an experience that's changed you, but you came together to create something that conceivably should last forever."
What's Next For Fraser?
Since concluding his work on Rental Family, there have been various reports that Fraser has turned his attention to a fourth instalment of The Mummy franchise.
Deadline reports that he and Rachel Weisz are set to reunite to delve into the world of the undead once more.
But for now, Fraser is making us laugh and cry with his work on Rental Family, as he showcases his talent once again.
Rental Family will be in UK cinemas from January 16, 2026.
