Selena Gomez has sparked speculation online after appearing to take a subtle swipe at longtime friend Taylor Swift in a now-deleted Instagram story.

The post came shortly after the New York Knicks secured a playoff victory over the San Antonio Spurs, a game that drew significant celebrity attention, including Swift, who was seated courtside at Madison Square Garden.

The singer, who concluded her world tour last year, was photographed in the front row wearing a New York Knicks T-shirt alongside two friends, visibly celebrating the team’s comeback win against the Spurs, the team Gomez allegedly supports.

In her Instagram story, Gomez shared an image related to the game and wrote, “Mad respect for the game!! Congrats to the peeps that represent! What a come back.” She then followed up with a more pointed remark: “so funny how some are all the sudden fans though lol.”

Although Gomez did not mention Swift by name, the timing of the post quickly led fans to interpret it as a veiled dig at the singer’s public appearance at the game.

Adding to the intrigue, Gomez reportedly commented “lol” on an Instagram post featuring Swift celebrating the victory.

The posts have raised eyebrows largely because there has been no prior indication of tension between the two artists.

A-list Knicks fan Taylor Swift was at Madison Square Garden to watch the New York Knicks complete a historic comeback following a disgraceful second-half performance from the San Antonio Spurs, to see her team go up 3-1 in the Finals.

However, a Knicks commentator's blunt remark about the 'Opalite' singer's attendance at the game detracted from some of the passionate reactions fans saw from the artist.

In an off-air conversation, basketball analyst Monica McNutt was unimpressed with Swift's appearance, saying: "She's not a Knicks fan, get out of here, girl."

Monica McNutt apologizes

Swifties didn't appreciate the analyst's comments, with the comment managing to make headlines despite the Spurs having the biggest collapse in NBA Finals history.

But now, the sports reporter has been forced to apologize for what she said, speaking to TMZ Sports about her choice of words.

While admitting that she didn't know that Swift was a fan of the Knicks, the commentator also noted that this was because she's been covering celebrity row all season, and hasn't seen Swift once.

In a video shared by TMZ, she said: "Swifties, I appreciate your passion. I said what I said and here's the deal, if I'm wrong, and I am wrong apparently because we've got an OG Amar'e Stoudemire jersey,

"I misspoke. I apologize."

Stoudemire is a former power forward who played most of his career with the Phoenix Suns, but also played for the Knicks from 2010 to 2015.

The analyst also noted that any concerns about her words may have been overshadowed by the historic achievement reached by the Knicks' performance on the court.

Monica McNutt previously broke her silence

McNutt took to Instagram after the game, filming her reactions to the final moments of Game 4, which saw the Knicks go up by one point with the penultimate play of the game.

Both her and Knicks radio host Tyler Murray were shocked when the took the lead in the dying seconds of the game, after being 29 points down at halftime.

Cult hero OG Anunoby was there to tip his team into the lead, giving them a one-point lead with 1.2 seconds left on the clock.

The crowd could be seen erupting behind the commentators as they witnessed one of the most jaw-dropping moments in NBA history.

This moment came just seconds after Spurs all-star guard De'Aaron Fox squandered an opportunity to run the clock down, attempting a contested lay-up, which was blocked by Anunoby, instead of playing for a foul with the Spurs up by one point.

The 36-year-old musician was among the celebrities in attendance for Wednesday (June 10) night's game in New York City, where the New York Knicks beat the San Antonio Spurs in a record-breaking comeback.

But while fans inside Madison Square Garden were excited to spot the pop superstar courtside, one comment from the broadcast team quickly grabbed attention online.

During an off-air conversation, members of the Knicks radio crew were discussing whether the 'Cruel Summer' musician had arrived at the game.

As colleagues, including Tyler Murray, tried to confirm the sighting, someone asked: "Is that Taylor Swift down there?"

Once it was confirmed that Swift was indeed in attendance, the host of the New York Knicks, Monica McNutt, appeared unimpressed.

"She's not a Knicks fan, get out of here, girl," she said.

The comment quickly circulated on X, where Swift's loyal fanbase, known as Swifties, accused the analyst of taking an unnecessary swipe at the singer.

"Being on air or not, you're still working, this is your job. inform yourself first or just shut up. the level of unprofessionalism is insane, studying to make this your job, and being known for one night only for a mean comment is pretty embarrassing," one fan criticized.

Another said: "Casual misogyny from other women in the big 2026. I thought it was understood women can like sports by now…"

A third defended: "This isn’t the first time taylor’s been to a knicks game nor is it the first time she’s a showed support to them. What was the point of being rude? surely as a female analyst monica mcnutt should be excited about the amount of female fans this will bring attention to the game?"

Even Barstool Sports founder Dave Portnoy weighed in on the controversy: "Damn. Hate to see @McNuttMonica hating on Taylor Swift. Lots of new faces in the crowd. Don't see her singling them out. Knicks are falling apart at the seams."

Star-studded courtside reunion

The Grammy-winning star's appearance at the game was notable for more than just the viral exchange.

Swift was sitting courtside alongside actress Mariska Hargitay, best known for playing Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

The pair coordinated their outfits, both wearing blue shirts featuring the phrase "Stevie Knicks" in orange lettering.

They were joined by Alana Haim and Este Haim, who also wore Knicks-inspired shirts. Alana's top read "Knickelback," while Este's featured the phrase "Knicole Kidman."

Swift's fiancé, Kansas City Chiefs star Travis Kelce, was not in attendance as he continues participating in the team's mandatory minicamp.

The 36-year-old singer was among a host of celebrities packed into Madison Square Garden on Wednesday (June 10) as the Knicks faced the San Antonio Spurs.

At one stage, there seemed to be very little for Knicks fans to be excited about as the Spurs dominated the opening half and took a 76-49 lead into the break.

Spurs' advantage later stretched to 29 points, putting the Knicks on the brink of defeat.

But surprisingly, the Knicks managed to pull off a record-breaking comeback by scoring 26 points in the third quarter before scoring another 32 points in the final period, leading to a dramatic 107-106 victory.

The win means that the Knicks lead the series 3-1 and are just one victory away from their first NBA championship since 1973.

NBA fans think Swift 'knew the script'

Before the comeback was complete, a clip of the 36-year-old 'Karma' singer enjoying herself courtside began making the rounds on X.

The footage shows Swift performing a brief dance alongside Alana and Este Haim before taking her seat.

The moment quickly sparked jokes from fans convinced the Grammy-winning star somehow knew what was about to happen.

"Most obvious script I've ever seen," one user wrote. Another quipped: "You gotta give credit where credit is due... she believed when no one else did. She knew the script."

But not everyone agreed with the conspiracy theories. "She has a winner mentality. Yall not familiar apparently," a third person argued.

A fourth fan added: "That was wild! I want Taylor at every Knicks game going forward."
