Groom slammed after 'immature' act during '$200,000 wedding' at Lake Como: 'The rage I feel for her'

A groom has faced a wave of backlash after viewers perceived him to "ruin" his $200,000 wedding in Italy.

Weddings are supposed to be the most joyous days of our lives - but, in some instances, they can be overshadowed by things that go wrong on the day. This can be something like miserable weather, issues with the catering, or your Uncle Derek taking advantage of the free bar.

But one thing you'd never expect is your own partner potentially ruining it, like in this instance.

The celebration took place at the exclusive Relais Villa Regina Teodolinda in Lake Como, a venue renowned for its picturesque coastline and a hefty price tag of up to $227,000 for an exclusive booking, according to the Daily Mail.

Newlyweds Cole Hennessy and Kristal Kim - a couple from Houston, Texas - were at the center of the controversy.

After a video of the bride and groom swiftly went viral on social media, critics were quick to condemn the groom's actions - deeming them inappropriate for such an upscale event.

The act, which some critics say ruined an otherwise stunning event, saw the groom drench his bride in champagne.

Despite the online outrage and the shocked reactions from guests, Kim appeared to take the champagne shower in her stride, smiling throughout the episode.

A brief segment of the clip showed female voices yelling at the man to stop spraying his bride with champagne.

Despite the bride appearing to not mind the champagne, people on social media still made their thoughts known.

When the video was uploaded to TikTok, TikToker @ceciliaregina275 added her own commentary where she said: "He is too immature to be getting married," before adding that the video gave off "frat boy vibes".

Cecilia also noted that people had defended the man as been "excited", but pointed out that he didn't damage any of his own stuff, just that of the brides.

The bride was offered the chance to spray the groom back, which she did, but it remains unclear whether she enjoyed the groom's initial actions or whether it annoyed her.

Viewers were mixed in their responses, with one person saying: "That’s what she wanted. He was like that before they got married. She said yes."

A second person said: "Maybe.... she loves him for HIS bubbly personality and maybe we are OVER ANALYZING things just a bit."

A third added: "To be fair, I would love to be sprayed with a champagne fountain on my wedding day. I even practice my champagne spray."

However, there were also replies slamming the groom.

"The rage I feel for her," one person wrote, with a second adding: "I give them 1 year before divorce —- if it makes it that far. She may already be thinking annulment."

A third person said: "This is why you sign the wedding papers at the end of the night."

The groom has since clapped back at his critics by posting a picture of himself with his wife, writing: "I'm getting canceled on the internet for having fun [with] my wife."

He shared the caption on his Instagram Story, which has since been reshared on X.

Despite what strangers think, it looks like these newlyweds are doing just fine and enjoying the honeymoon!
